Coaching Staff Head Coach Pro Career: Dick Vermeil was named the ninth head coach in Chiefs franchise history on January 12, 2001. Vermeil joins Bill Parcells, Dan Reeves, and Don Shula as the only coaches in NFL history to guide two different teams to the Super Bowl. In 1999, he led St. Louis to a win in Super Bowl XXXIV and guided Philadelphia to Super Bowl XV after the 1980 season. Was head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles from 1976-1982. Named NFL coach of the year in 1980 and 1999. Entered league as the first special teams coach in NFL history with the L.A. Rams (1969). Career record: 109-99. Background: Vermeil played quarterback at San Jose State (1956-57) after transferring from Napa (Calif.) J.C. Was named “Coach of the Year” on four levels: high school, junior college, NCAA Division I, and the NFL.
